Blakeley and Sutherland stir before first light, certain they can hear a vehicle in the distance, Taylor accuses the men of dreaming but the untiring Freddy Colson arrives at the camp shortly after six with the mail, supplies and news of Coote and the crash, the pilot is not so badly injured. Colson finds a quiet place for a long overdue sleep and Taylor sets too repairing Sunrise, the truck has taken a battering in the last three days.

Coote is mending fairly quickly under the ministrations of Dr. Kirkland and the nurses, receives a telegram this afternoon from Bailey telling him to stop the senseless chatter over the wires and to the press. Apparently Olhssens letter has hit the Adelaide papers.

The wreckage of the plane is loaded onto Sunrise by late afternoon and that evening the men discuss Coote's actions and his shady involvement with the Sydney mail to C.A.G.E. Somehow Blakeley doesn't feel in charge and pens a straightforward letter to the Directors; do not send another plane, use camels. He writes to Coote with condolences and advice...forget the plane, get a couple of pairs of stout walking boots and half a dozen camels. Blakely is convinced the Sydney crowd are a mob of boneheads, coming from Blakeley that's a bit rich.
