The Leader of the Expedition sets the bread to bake and taking his waterbag begins another days trudge. The day gets off to a heavy start, Blakeley has decided to cross the sandhills so that some progress west can be made. The sand mats are out immediately and it's a slogging hard work morning with occasional relief for the men and the labouring truck on stony ground. Towards afternoon mulga makes an appearance, only the nature of the work changes. Blakeley calls a four o'clock camp, the team exhausted and pleased to call it a day. The nights camp is a patch of stunted mulga with plenty of good wood about, Blakeley prepares to bake bread tonight. Unseen Aboriginal continue to dog the Expedition. Sir Otto Niemeyer addresses the Premiers conference, it's not good news. a heavy deflationary progamme immediately, no more loans, only carry out productive work and above all balance your budgets!! |
