Smithy gets underway this morning for Salt Lake City, journey almost complete. He plans his campaign to sell the Southern Cross to the city of City of San Francisco but maybe the Australian Government might follow through on the rumours that they'll buy the now historic plane, maybe. Holden and the Canberra land in Broken Hill on their way to Sydney with nothing favorable to report about the Jervois Range mineral discovery, too far from rail and markets and precious little water, it will be a difficult expensive field to develop. Amy Johnson leaves Parafield this morning in a Hawk Moth plane flown by Major DeHavilland, stops at Kyancutta for a presentation then on to Ceduna for lunch, arrives at Forrest by 5.00 p.m. Off to Perth tomorrow then boat to England. The Defence Department are after MacKay's maps already, although he returned from his epic central Australian aerial explorations just last Sunday, obviously no idea how long it takes to translate photos to maps, could be Texas Green the Minister is after some urgent information for C.A.G.E. and Lasseter's explorations. But Larkin and MacKay's mates on the expedition write to the Prime Ministers Department suggesting that the newly discovered lake in central Australia be named lake MacKay, as is his style MacKay demurs but his mates insist although the suggestion may not get past the Government, they seem to have an intense dislike of the wealthy pastoralist and his successes.
