Blakiston-Houston leaves Melbourne today, he likes the city and reflects on a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days past and the upcoming expedition, he has some misgivings but will handle them, thankful he didn't fly out with Coote.

Blakeley, Sutherland and Lasseter leave Quorn very early and do not enjoy the uncomfortable ride on the empty cattle train as it lurches north through the night, the lashings on the truck and stores have to be adjusted at every frequent stop. The Captain of course is travelling first class.

Bedford, De Havelland's company secretary writes a conciliatory letter to Civil Aviation re the purchase of the Golden Quest, the letter confuses the situation further, nothings changed and the plane remains unregistered.

Terry, Bird and Williams arrive early at drought ridden Erldunda station, the men are amazed at the spic and span order about the homestead, yet Mrs. Staines is a sick woman, to emphasise the rule of elements a short vicious dust storm blows up and  Mrs. Staines and the house girls will have to start again. It's been the seventh year of drought and the Staines bought the station eight years ago, yet she finds time and resource to be a generous hostess, Terry is deeply impressed. Bill Bird and some supplies will wait for Colson at Erldunda, from here to Mount Connor will need three men to handle the camels and loads. Terry and Williams motor on to Murra Turra, 80 miles W.S.W of the homestead.
