Blakeley rises early and climbs the sandhill, from the top he sees the notorious 'breakaway country' ( never mind the broken country, what about the string of salt lakes glittering away on the southern horizon??) that bars all further progress south, he returns to breakfast with the bad news, certainly for Lasseter......or is it?.

After breakfast the party climbs the sandhill and confirm that this is the end of the journey, at least for the truck. Half a mile further west they again survey the desolate scene from a hillock of limestone, they christen the location Lasseter's Lookout. The fools don't realise they are at Johnston Hill, what maps are they using...if any!

Blakeley holds court with the rest of the party and they review Lasseter's story with Harry present, Blakeley bluntly states that his story is impossible. Lasseter, facing fraud charges and maybe a few others, makes his only choice and as anticipated by Blakeley decides to continue the search with Paul Johns and his Aboriginal guides and five camels.
