Morning at Illbilla and Taylor wakes to bare footprints right up to his camp stretcher, the cheeky blighters! he follows the circuitous tracks about the camp and finds they lead to Sutherland's bunk and a big grin, huge mirth at Taylor's concern over the Aboriginals. Colson excites Coote with news from a mate in Western Australia about gold finds that confirm Lasseter's presence in the country years ago, and the King of Creation story, (I've noticed over the years that the more pretentious the name the smaller the yield). Leaving Coote agog, Freddy sets off again for Illbilla, the imminent arrival of Hall with another plane spurring his efforts. Hall arrives in Oodnadatta, he wires Coote that he should arrive in Alice Springs tomorrow. Blakeley is resigned to having to travel east in search of Colson, patience Freddy, Freddy's on his way. Taylor continues work on the truck's condenser, the improvision goes well. He finishes early and spends the afternoon hunting pigeons for the pot and with some success. Lasseter goes for a walk to the south this afternoon and Blakeley takes the opportunity to raid Lasseter's tin trunk, he finds much of interest. Later Mickey shows Blakeley where Lasseter has marked his way with white ochre and by dragging a stick. Rip van and his family turn up and circulate between the camp and the waterhole.
