Paul Johns returns to Alice Springs and tells a very strange tale of misadventure in the Petermanns. Nice timing indeed, his two month contract to act as Lasseter's Guide runs out in two days.

Terry is relieved to find all their fears of a prolonged wet have blown out, it's a magnificent clear morning and the haze has gone, at last some landmarks can be seen. The ground is too wet for the vehicle though, so a late breakfast then water hunting for the camel men, they return at midday with four drums found in an inaccessible rockhole. New mulga uprights fitted to the vehicles hood, what the mulga destroys the mulga provides muses Terry, other minor repairs. Bailey cooking and it's a rare leisurely afternoon.

Perhaps the publicity surrounding Coote and his Ayers Rock debacle has misfired, in Parliament the awkward questions continue regarding financial assistance to the C.A.G.E. Expedition and Arthur Blakeley is put on notice. A Mr. White M.H.R. makes an obvious inference between the assistance given to C.A.G.E. and the lack of assistance given to Mackay's successful mapping expedition, perhaps the Minister is favouring his brothers Company?
