Coote leaves Hermannsburg Mission at 10ish and Pastor Albrecht insists he returns in a weeks time with Taylor to report on progress at Ayers Rock. Coote agrees to return by sunset of 1/11/30 to report on well being and progress in the search for Lasseter. He voices concern over yesterdays arrangements with Carrington for his return at the end of the month but ignores last nights arrangements made with the Heinrichs. The fool  has left utter confusion behind him.

Coote experiences another turbulent flight on his way to Ayers Rock’ seems crook weather follows him everywhere, arrives over the monolith but fails to see any trace of Taylor and the supply party, perhaps Taylor has mistaken Mount Connor for the Rock, Coote flies there but no sign of Taylor and Tucker, returns to the Rock but without enough petrol to return to Hermannsburg, has to make a forced landing on a Spinifex covered sand plain about five miles south west, touches down safely but clips a small stump with the propeller, severely damages it. 3.p.m. and grounded again.

Takes stock of supplies and sleeps in the planes cockpit for the night.

Terry completes packing by midday but what with permits, accounts and final telegrams doesn’t get away until 4ish but with foreboding, sharp thunderstorms and rain, the locals reckon they’ll be lucky to get a mile or two before bogging. It’s wet and muddy right enough, Bailey has to hold the tablecloth as a windscreen. Terry ends up driving down a creek bed, very dirty going but progress made, camp for the day at 50 miles from Oodnadatta, excellent progress considering.
