Taylor and Johns have a disastrous day with the camels caused by a rabbit running through the team shortly after 9 o'clock. All the pack camels bolt and throw their loads, by lunch time one camel is still missing and Rolfe and mate set off looking for the beast. The remaining eight camels are close hobbled and turned out to feed. Rolfe and mate have not returned by nightfall. My word the Endeavour team is dining well, emu for breakfast and Terry reckons as tender as Canterbury lamb, delicious. A change of plans decided on, the men will prospect west for a couple of weeks and on the return fill in the blanks from the outward journey. A rest day for most of the camp except Terry and Mick, Terry writing up the journals and reports for the Mines Department, Mick does not return until 4.30 with the stray camels, a twenty mile journey for him, the bloody Lambina camels have broken their hobbles again and cleared out east. The nights camp noisy with the call of Quail, Curlew and frogs.
