Another days waiting at Illbilla, Taylor examines a box of rock specimens left by Lasseter and decides they are rubbish. These are probably the specimens that Lasseter and Johns argued over.

The Commonwealth Government, with strings attached, distributes 500,000 pounds to the states for relief work for the unemployed, at the award rates of pay. The States scramble to find meaningful work by Christmas, a difficult task.

Bailey and Colson away on a three day journey of exploration, filling in the gaps so to speak. Bailey firmly put in charge of navigation, Colson is hopeless, doesn't know how to use a compass. Bailey could be leading his own expeditions soon, a most competent and happy fellow. Bill Bird and Mick away early on the camels hunting water, accompanied by last nights Aboriginals. return with eight drums filled at 8.30.

Mick sets off for the nights camp with the rest of the camels at 9ish, he seems to have an easy relationship with his myall brethren and is not concerned about traveling alone, Terry and Bird  underway on the truck and meet Mick for a midday lunch amidst sandhills. Arrive at new camp, 56, mid afternoon, Mick shortly after. The land about is lush although starting to brown off in the summer heat. An untiring Bird off for a couple of hours prospecting, no gold but a fat bunny for tomorrows breakfast.
