Very early this morning Taylor and Johns are roused by a kaditcha scare in the Aboriginal camp, they use their firearms to scare of the assassin and restore calm. Pittendrigh and Hamre push on at daybreak, the temperature increasing rapidly and by midday the water supply is very low. to their dismay they discover the noon meal of tinned sausages is quite salty. The sausages are discarded and they continue east to some low hills where they camp for the night. they light several large signal fires but no response. Rolfe Entata and a large number of Aboriginals leave Illbilla early heading for the sandhills to the north intending to make large smoke signals for the crew of the Golden Quest from mid morning to noon. Later in the afternoon he loads the camels with empty petrol drums and with two Aboriginal camelmen returns to Hermannsburg. Rise and shine at 5.30 in the Terry camp, my word the Boss must be on the mend, keen to arrive at the Mann Ranges for Christmas day, a longish journey. A messy trip for truck and camel, yesterdays rain, truck bogs and camels slip and slide but progress made. But Terry always navigating and filling in the gaps on the map, useful work for later travelers through this land. Back in South Australia on the longest day of the year, the truck crew stop at 3.00 and prepare camp and tea.
