The Alice Springs police lend Taylor two water canteens and other equipment for the camels. Taylor and Johns leave town late P.M. and get as far as the Police Paddocks south of the gap. Heavy storms. An unusually late start for the Endeavour team, during the night the camels wandered off for the first time on this trip, away by 9.15 but not much progress for the vehicle, hardly started before it's bogged to the axles in wet ground, Terry paves a road with slabs of granite, an hours work but the road improves to top gear driving. Misses a creek leading to Harriet springs at midday and while backtracking meets the camels, lunch on the spot and camp set up nearby. Bird is impressed with the change of country and sets off prospecting hoping for the best. Colson and Mick search all creeks for the springs without luck. Bailey camp duties and Terry car repairs. Near disaster at sundown when the wind gets into the corres case and scatters papers far and wide, the most important piece is the last recovered, the Western Australian Miners Right.
